Our Trip to the Keys
We went totally insane from the cold of the harsh DC winter. When we found we had run out of bread milk and toilet paper, we found that there was only one choice left. We were forced to escape to the gorgeous Florida Keys. Being the strange people we were, we waited until the last minute and found probably the last room available on Marathon Key. It was at the Coco Plum Beach and Tennis Club, and was pretty cool. One of the first places we went to was the Dolphin Research Center on Grassy Key. We were so impressed, we made another page about the dolphins that you can get to by clicking on the blue highlighted word "dolphin". (Either of them will do). Later on the trip, when it was rainy instead of the promised sunshine, we went off to Hemmingway's House in Key West. You can see some of the pictures from that trip by clicking on the cute blue highlighted words. The Hemmingway House includes approximately 55 cats who live there, who are said to be descendants of Hemmingway's original cats. The strange gene of 6 toed cats is said to be significant in determining lineage. Over half of the current cat population is said to have this malformation. Given that all of my childhood cats had 6 toes, they must have escaped from the keys. The cats were very friendly, and one took to Reece quite quickly, when she wasn't following the gardener around. Cat resting in Hemmingway's Study Hemmingway's Typewriter. Remember when they actually used these?
